The IRTA was at Holyport on Saturday 29th September for the annual handicap doubles tournament for peripatetic clubs organised by The Brigands. The IRTA pair (Roland Budd & Rupert Derham) emerged undefeated from their group matches (against The Brigands and the Old Harrovians), beat Hurlingham Pigeons I (past winners) in a keenly-contested semi-final, and then built on their momentum to beat Hurlingham Pigeons II in the final.

Congratulations to the IRTA pair!

Report from Malcolm Thorp (Brigands Tennis Club)

The Irish Real Tennis Association team of Roland Budd and Rupert Derham played consistently well throughout the knock out round and the semi-finals. In the final, they came up against the Hurlingham Pigeons II pairing of Corin Jenkins and Stephen Goss, who had played equally well in their group stage and semi-finals, matching the IRTA in game scores.

But the IRTA boys found another gear in the final and "put flight" to the Pigeons beating them 10-2 and so were the well deserved winners of this year's tournament.

Many thanks again to Angus for all his support prior to the day and for his excellent marking throughout the tournament.
